To raise awareness of the disease and to mark Worldwide Lymphoma Awareness Day on September 15, the patient support group, Lymphoma Support Ireland (LSI), has launched a competition for amateur photographers. Entitled 'Beacons of Hope', the competition aims to encourage members of the public, especially those who have been touched by cancer, to represent their 'beacons of hope' through photography.
The judging panel includes international photographer, Perry Ogden, whose photos are exhibited in galleries worldwide. Winning entries will be displayed at a special exhibition in Dublin on Worldwide Lymphoma Awareness Day.
"This is an opportunity to send a positive message to cancer patients and their families, with a focus on one of the most curable forms of malignant disease", said Professor Peter Daly, a consultant medical oncologist at St James's Hospital in Dublin.
The overall winner of the competition will receive €1,000 worth of photographic equipment, while 11 runners up will each receive a digital camera. The closing date for entries is August 17. Entries should be posted to:
