Home décor superstore At Home announced today that the company has made a $150,440 donation to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) to fund breakthrough research into all forms of blood cancer as they affect people around the world.
Throughout the month of September, At Home employees at locations across the United States collected customer donations ranging from $1 to $5 to $10 at the check-out register.
"This donation will go a long way to support the great work The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is doing in the fight against blood cancer," said Lee Bird, chief executive officer of At Home. "We are thrilled by the generosity of our At Home customers and team members who came together to help surpass our expectations for At Home's first national charitable campaign."
At Home also sponsored the LLS Light the Night Walks in cities all over the country in an effort to raise even more money for the charity.
"Our partnership with At Home is helping to bring us closer to our vision of a world without blood cancers," said Louis J. DeGennaro, PhD, LLS president and chief executive officer. "Together, we are having an impact. LLS has invested more than $1 billion in research to advance new therapies for blood cancer patients. Funds raised by At Home will help LLS invest in research to advance new treatments, like targeted therapies that zero in on cancer cells and kill them, and immunotherapies that use a patient's own immune system to fight cancer," said DeGennaro.
