Alice Pyne, the inspirational teenage girl from Cumbria in the UK whose posted bucket list online in 2011 went viral and made her famous, has passed away from Hodgkin's lymphoma. She was 17.
Alice was diagnosed at 13. After posting her bucket list online, she gained worldwide fame and was able to accomplish a number of things on her list, including meeting a boy band and traveling to Kenya.
More importantly on her list was the hope that as many people as possible would register to be bone marrow donors, and according to one media outlet, as many as 40,000 or more people from her area did indeed register, according to her wishes. Additionally, Alice and her sister Milly raised a hundred thousand pounds for charity and created "Alice's Escapes," a charity set up to provide holidays for families with a critically ill child.
The sisters attended the Pride of Britain awards and were honored for their work by receiving the British Empire Medal in 2012.
A message from her mother on her Facebook page read:
Our darling girl, Alice, gained her angel wings today. She passed away peacefully with Simon, Milly and myself by her side. We are devastated and know that our lives will never be the same. #nightnightalice
