I mentioned last week that Rihanna was trying to get Pepsi funds to support a bone marrow support group, but I am pleased to announce that the American Cancer Society did receive a hunk of change.
Drew Brees won the NFL Pepsi refresh and a $100,000 grant for the ACS Hope Lodge The money will go towards improving the living facilities of the Patrick F. Taylor Hope Lodge in New Orleans, which provides cancer patients and their caregivers with a free place to stay while they are receiving treatment away from home. There are currently 29 Hope Lodge facilities throughout the country.
ACS CEO John Seffrin made this statement: “We are so appreciative of Mr. Brees and all his fans who voted to support the Hope Lodge. This is a wonderful demonstration of communities rallying together to help people get well from cancer by supporting the American Cancer Society in our efforts to save lives and create a world with more birthdays.”
Last week NFL fans had the opportunity to cast their votes for the idea they believed should be awarded a grant from the Pepsi Refresh Project. New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez and Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarcus Ware also campaigned for votes for their ideas to further projects important to them. "I'm thrilled that $100,000 will be going to the Hope Lodge, which will provide cancer patients and their caregiver's rooms through the Pepsi Refresh Project," Brees said. "We're all winners in this project. These grants will help make a real difference in our communities. Thanks to the fans who voted, the support has been outstanding for all of us."
