Election 2005 and Health Issues

This coming week is election time here in the US. We'll all go to the polls and vote for our candidate of choice. Democracy in action.

I have a few questions for you to consider:

An Illustrated Guide to Skin Lymphomas

An Illustrated Guide to Skin Lymphomas is not your average mystery, or thriller, not even a popular coffee table book for most people. But if you are looking at a modern, comprehensive book on lymphomas that present themselves in the skin, you've found the right book.

Lymphoma Survivor Mister T to Appear in Rocky VI

Mister T, the actor who played a number of 1980's TV and movie characters recently appeared on the Howard Stern Show. He is a survivor of T cell Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. He recently said: I still go to the hospital to keep (my cancer) under control. There's no cure but I'm doing well. When I got cancer I found out who my real friends were. Hollywood turned its back on me but Sylvester (Stallone) remained a great buddy.

RSS Feed - Doh!

I believe I have worked the bugs out of the RSS feed. I added the standard icon in the upper right and I purged my entries of special characters the feed choked on. I have the freeware reader RssReader which seems to work ok. I will be very glad when Internet Explorer catches up to Firefox in regards to reading RSS feeds.

If anyone has had problems up to now I apologize! Mike

Pillows Can Contain Harmful Fungi

A recent study, reported by the BBC, shows the average pillow is home to a host of potentially-harmful fungi. A University of Manchester team found up to 16 types of fungi in pillows they analysed, the British Allergy journal reported. They said feather pillows had fewer species than synthetic versions, particularly in the case of a fungus which exacerbates asthma. Experts advise disinfecting pillows but say fungi occur in most environments.

Website by a Lymphoma of Bone Patient

I got an e-mail the other day from Karen in the UK. She has B Cell Lymphoma of the Bone and has set up a great site called The Furry Monkey. Her cancer is very rare - if Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma only strikes a small percentage of the population, lymphoma of bone only strikes 1-3% of those. If you would like more info or to read her cancer diary, it's worth a visit.

Potporri

With the big articles below, posting something relevant seems a bit harder lately. I am currently reading The Patient from Hell: How I Worked with My Doctors to Get the Best of Modern Medicine and How You Can Too by Steve Schneider and I like it a lot. I'll have a big review when I finish but for now if you are newly diagnosed and want to have the right attitude for dealing with doctors and the medical system, you'll want this book.

Blog Changes

I am upgrading the blog to include an RSS Feed. Thus with new tools, you can subscribe to a feed of new posts with an RSS reader like Firefox or the upcoming Internet Explorer 7.

Please excuse the dust as I tweek the configuration to make it all work.

Mr. Mom

No news to report this weekend as I'm doing the Mr. Mom gig while the Mrs. Mom is off with the dogs.

I should be getting a couple more books in the mail this week :-) Look for the reviews soon.

Thank You Letter

I received this today, it touched me deeply, and I received permission to share with site readers:

Hello, my name is Brendon. I am e-mailing you for many reasons after looking at your site. Before I explain myself, I'd like to introduce myself. I am 18 years of age, and am very interested in Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. I found your site through Google search. I was searching for Lymphoma as a research topic for my High School health class, and your site was the first result.
