Two New Multimedia Resources Available

Through our partnership with Healthology, we have two new multimedia resources available - one on Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma (NHL) treatment and an article on cancer care.

UK Singer Joe Longthorne is Back Performing

British singer Joe Longthorne is back performing this weekend after a one year absence from the stage through illness that left him fighting for his life. The star spent months in the hospital after setbacks following a bone marrow transplant at Manchester Royal Infirmary. The singer was first diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma(NHL) in 1989. He believed he had been given the all-clear in 1997, but the cancer returned.

Actor, Hodgkin's Survivor, To Star in New Show

US actor Brian Watson, best known for his role as Matt Camden in the television series "7th Heaven" returns to television in the title role of the new ABC series "What About Brian" this Sunday.

What's in a Name? Fewer letters for one...

Back in the old days, I was too lame to know I could get a short domain name. Then when I caught a clue, many good ones were taken. I found lymphomainfo.net and lymph.net. You can guess which I kept and which I let lapse (lymph.net is now a cover site for a useless Goggle ads based site - sad).

New Lymphoma Multimedia Available

The Lymphoma Information Network, in partnership with Healthology, has some new multimedia information available:

- Video: Targeted Therapy for NHL

- Video: Attacking NHL Early

My Favorite Author (at least in one category)

And that category would be cancer books. I learned about Wendy Harpham from a cancer chat friend of mine, Mary. Wendy was a recurrent Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma survivor and an MD (but not an oncologist). She channeled her energy into some wonderful books on cancer - information everyone could use. The first was Diagnosis: Cancer, Your Guide to the First Months of Healthy Survivorship.

Patient Aid in the US

Let's face it - fighting lymphoma can get kind of pricey. Doctors, tests, even the driving back and forth with gas at $2.50/gallon. Even if you have insurance, costs can add up. The following groups offer help with expenses of one sort or another in the US:

Wendy Wasserstein, American Playwright

One of America's leading playwrights passed away on Monday. Wendy Wasserstein lost her battle with lymphoma at age 55. The exact type of lymphoma was not released.

The post-feminist icon was very much like the women she wrote about, such as Heidi Holland, the protagonist of The Heidi Chronicles. As she approaches 35, Heidi discovers that she is unfulfilled in her relationships and career. She feels she has been let down or stranded by her generation, which has abandoned its youthful ideals for more traditional values.

Magical Story: A Teenager's Inspiring Battle with Hodgkin's Disease

I came across a wonderful book the other day browsing on Google. Not many lymphoma books miss my gaze. Magical Story is a recent account of a teen's diagnosis and struggle with Hodgkin's. Leslie Bowden's account of her son Brian's ordeal is revealing and poignant. This paperback is a recommended read.

The Blog and The Site

As you have noticed, I have not been able to post daily on The Lymphoma Blog. Part of this is I would rather note the really meaningful news rather than post mediocre, mundane, or trivial items. And there certainly are enough blogs detailing peoples lives. The mailing list for the blog has grown nicely, thanks. And The Lymphoma Information Network website hit a new high of 24,500 visitors last Tuesday. Thank you for your patronage and I hope this site provides you information you can use. Mike
