King Herod and Hodgkins

King Herod didn't live long after being the bad guy in the life of Jesus and the Jews 2000 years ago. Dying in 4 AD, he suffered from itching, intestinal pain, shortness of breath, convulsions, and gangrene. Could he have died of Hodgkin's lymphoma?

A group of scholars gathered just under two years ago to see. With no body, they had to go on the accounts from the time. While considering Hodgkin's and other illnesses, it was concluded that he probably suffered and died from chronic kidney disease and an inusual infection called Fournier's gangrene.

A New Hodgkins Blog

Sarah is a recently diagnosed Hodgkin's Lymphoma survivor, stage III (or IV) B mixed cellularity. She has a good blog at http://www.journeytobabeland.blogspot.com/ which I highly recommend. It gives you a patient's experiences vs. news and information presented in my blog.

Happy New Years

I would like to thank all the readers of this blog and visitors to the Lymphoma Information Network website.

May 2005 be a year in which we celebrate our victories and reflect on the rest. Mike

Site Changes

I have begun the big site update that I do during the holidays. It is one of the few times I have uninterrupted time to do all the work. If anyone has a request, leave a comment.

At my wife's request, I have placed our snowflake by Jane Yolan on the siteintroduction page. I also wrote a page on the history behind the Robert's Snow snowflakes and ours in particular. It has an honored place in our home.

Migraines or Fibromyalgia

Does anyone also suffer from migraine headaches or fibromyalgia? If so I'd like to know if this is common among lymphoma survivors.

New Harry Potter Book Announced

I don't know if you're a fan of the Harry Potter series of books. My family loves them. J.K. Rowling announced she has finished the 6th book and is very happy with the outcome. And the title is:

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

The release date is July 16th but most booksellers are taking preorders. Amazon has the book for preorder at 40% off ($17.99).

Eating During the Holidays

This time of year people eat more in terms of quantity and variety. Whatever people celebrate, there are dishes that might not be eaten any other time.

For the person being treated for lymphoma, this may be a frustration. Traditional chemotherapy or radiotherapy may leave a person with nausea. Or the taste of certain foods may change. Or both (like me).

Staying Warm

I monitor lymphoma news and information on the Intertnet and it has been very slow lately. Maybe it is the Holidays?

... and a pillow for men too

With the success of the women's pillow below, a Japanese firm has come up with a pillow aimed at men.

The Lap Pillow.

The pillow is shaped like a female waist, lap/thighs, and legs/calves folded under. The pillow comes with 2 changable short skirts, one black, the other red.

Aimed at younger, single men, the pillow has become a hit holiday gift with all ages. It sells for about $90 in Japan. I wonder if they will catch on elsewhere?

Again, anything in search of a good rest. :-)

A Pillow for Women

Leave it to Japanese developers:

We all know a good pillow is essential - whether you're fighting lymphoma or just want a good nights sleep.

A Japanese company has invented a pillow with an arm attached to simulate laying in the fold of a boyfriend's arm.

Anything to feel comfortable.
