Fundraiser

There are so many Leukemia & Lymphoma Society fundraisers that I don't usually write about them. But a letter from Pamela Clark, featured earlier in the blog caught my eye. She's a 2 time Hodgkin's survivor & active surfer. They are having a contest to see who in Oregon can raise the most money for LLS. You can find out more at http://www.pamelaclark.info/.

New Hodgkins Blog

Andre' Singleton, a student at Morehouse College, was diagnosed with late stage Hodgkin's. He's got a great blog at http://hiptop.com/hiplog/read/4/3499/.

On the blog you can read about his new girlfriend, the former Ms. Maroon and White (great going!) and you can read an article about Andre' in the Kansas City Star.

Your Inspirational Stories

Do have an inspirational or informative story? Send them in to lymphomainfo @ cox . net (no spaces) and we'll consider publishing them here. Please keep the length short and wording concise. One picture may accompany stories.

Golfer Paul Azinger

Did you know pro golfer Paul Azinger is a lymphoma survivor? Recently Azinger joined ABC Sports as an analyst this year alongside Mike Tirico and Nick Faldo. In 1994 and '95, he served as host for the Zinger Stinger Pro-Am, which raised money for lymphoma research. He is the recipient of GWAA Ben Hogan Award in 1995, given to the individual who has continued to be active in golf despite physical handicap or serious illness. Paul has a book, Zinger, about his fight against cancer.

Band Headlines Event for Fan with Lymphoma

Herald-Dispatch.com is reporting that TRIVIUM and LILITU are among the band that are teaming up to throw a 21st party birthday bash concert Friday, April 15, for Charleston, West Virginia resident Adam Weaver, who has been in an all-out war with Hodgkins Lymphoma cancer since he was diagnosed Oct. 8, 2002.

Like the heavy rock music he loves, Weaver has not let cancer take his spirit, and he is not going quietly.

Of Hope and Remission

I received a wonderful letter & story from Carolyn, a Hodgkin's survivor diagnosed in 1968! In her own words:

Wigs and Humor

Sometimes Megan Woodmansee is a redhead or brunette.
But life as a blonde isn't bad either, she jokes.

Having fun with her wigs is one way the 21-year-old college student is coping as she battles non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Another way she is dealing with her cancer is speaking out about it so that others will learn from her experience. Her message for young people about cancer is that it can happen to anyone, even someone vibrant like herself.

Baseballs Big Cat Retires

Andres Galarraga retires after 19 seasons Tuesday one home run short of 400. "I'm happy," said Galarraga's wife, Eneyda. "He'd like to stay home right now. He's played for a long time. You know when it's time for you to retire."

Galarraga signed a minor-league deal with the New York Mets in December after making his second successful return from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma last season.

He had hoped to join the 400-home run club by finishing his career mainly as a pinch-hitter. He had three home runs and was batting .235 in 17 spring games.

Funds 4 Nat

19 year old Natalie Smith lives in Auckland, New Zealand. She also has stage 4 Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

Her parents are trying to raise funds to send Natalie to Melbourne, Australia for a PET Scan and to fund her treatment. They are also trying to get a PET scanner for New Zealand so people like Natalie do not have to make such a long trip.

The Power of Prayer

I have known the folks at the Stop Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma website for awhile now - a very good community support effort. I recently rediscovered their prayer list which may be a source of comfort.
